The basic education in psychodrama is an education over four semesters part-time and leads to the title psychodrama assistant. Through theoretical studies, practical exercises and the use of own experience, the education provides basic insight into psychodramatic thinking and methodology as well as knowledge of the structure and dynamics of a psychodrama.
A psychodrama assistant should be able to apply the most important sub-techniques in psychodrama in connection with group work and group processes, and the candidates should be able to lead a vignette, i.e. a single stage where the basic techniques are used. A certified psychodrama assistant can apply psychodramatic sub-techniques but cannot run his or her own psychodrama groups.
